Easter morning is more than a beautiful tradition—it’s the explosion of eternal hope into a broken world. The empty tomb is not just a symbol of victory over death; it is the foundation for how we live, love, and serve today.
Here are 7 powerful reasons why the resurrection of Jesus gives us hope, purpose, focus, and a future that truly matters.
- The resurrection proves that Jesus is who He claimed to be.
When Jesus walked out of that tomb, He validated every word He had ever spoken. The resurrection wasn’t just a miracle—it was a declaration.
“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.” John 11:25
“If Jesus rose from the dead, then you have to accept all that He said; if He didn’t rise from the dead, then why worry about any of what He said?” Tim Keller
Jesus wasn’t just a good teacher or moral example—He is the risen King.
- The resurrection is the foundation of our faith.
Because Jesus lives, our faith stands firm—full of power, not just principle.
“And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.” 1 Corinthians 15:14
Our faith isn’t based on a feeling—it’s anchored in an event.
- The resurrection secures our forgiveness.
Jesus paid the price, but the resurrection was the receipt that proved the debt was cleared.
“He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.” Romans 4:25
Your past no longer defines you—grace does!
- The resurrection gives us power for daily living.
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to us now through the Holy Spirit.
“I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead.”
Ephesians 1:19–20
“We are Easter people, living in a Good Friday world.” Barbara Johnson
We don’t have to live defeated lives when resurrection power is in us.
- The resurrection reminds us that pain is not the end of our story.
The story of Jesus didn’t end on the cross. It didn’t end in the grave. And neither does yours.
“Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:5
No matter how dark your season, Easter whispers: Hold on. Morning is coming.
- The resurrection refocuses our purpose.
We’re not here to coast to the end—we’re called to live on mission. Because He lives, we can live with boldness and clarity.
“Go and make disciples of all nations…and surely I am with you always.” Matthew 28:19-20
“Our lives now only make sense in light of the resurrection.” N.T. Wright
We have a calling far bigger than ourselves.
- The resurrection promises us an eternal future.
Death is not the end. Because Jesus lives, we have the guarantee of life beyond this one—a future of glory in the presence of God.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” 1 Peter 1:3
Eternity is not wishful thinking—it’s a promised reality.
Final Challenge: What will you do with the empty tomb?
The resurrection of Jesus isn’t just something to celebrate once a year—it’s the truth that should reshape our entire lives.
“The resurrection means the worst thing is never the last thing.” Frederick Buechner
So the question is: How will we let the power of the resurrection change the way you live, love, and serve today?
Question: Which of these 7 truths about the resurrection speaks most to where you are right now? Drop your thoughts in the comments below—I’d love to hear your story.

Death is not the end
The guarantee of life beyond this one
Gives me hope that the passing of my husband last October means he lives on in Heaven with God,Jesus and others that have gone before
Have a blessed Easter
Barbara, I know you’re missing your husband and I’m so grateful that death is not the end of our story when we know Jesus. I’m praying for you.
All of them
Amen, Charles! The resurrection of Jesus is a reason for celebration!
Happy Easter to you too! Have a wonderful visit with Jason, Love and Prayers.
Thank you, Elizabeth! We look forward to seeing our son this weekend. Thank you for your prayers!
Thank you, Carol! This is so powerful! I read it aloud as we are driving to Myrtle Beach. I am so thankful for FORGIVENESS, for PURPOSE, & for my ETERNAL FUTURE.
Thanks so much! I’m so grateful the Jesus rose from the dead–and that He’s in heaven preparing a place for all of us who believe. We have a hope-filled future because He lives!
I have just finished reading When I lay my Isaac down and a New Kind of Normal. Thanks you so much for sharing your journey. My son is in prison as well but will be out on parole shortly. He is a wonderful Christian but made a wrong decision. And the shock at first was hard to bear but I know that God will be glorified and He has purpose in all of this. My son has learned so much while being incarcerated and I am proud of him. He has made friends with a lot of other Christian fellows while in prison which I find sad that so many have made wrong turns in their lives. I pray for your Jason as well. He is using his time to serve God and others. Enjoy your Easter visit with him.
Elaine, thank you for this note. I’m so sorry that your family has gone through so much pain and I’m praying for you and your son right now. Thank you for your prayers for Jason. It was encouraging to me to read that my books have helped you during this unexpected journey. Have a blessed Easter.
